Dr. Gerald J. Dal Pan became the Director of the Office of Surveillance and Epidemiology, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), in November 2005. CDER performs an essential public health task by making sure that safe and effective drugs are available to improve the health of people in the United States. Before that, he was the Director of the Division of Surveillance, Research, and Communication Support in CDER’s Office of Drug Safety, a position he held since December 2003. He received his medical degree from Columbia University, and his Master’s degree in clinical epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University. He trained in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and in neurology at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Dal Pan is board certified in internal medicine and neurology.
