SPS sponsored conference “National Pharmacovigilance Systems: Ensuring the Safe Use of Medicines”

Andy Stergachis and Laura Sangaré of the Global Medicines Program participated in the Strengthening Pharmaceutical Systems sponsored conference National Pharmacovigilance Systems: Ensuring the Safe Use of Medicines” , in Nairobi, Kenya from Aug 16-18, 2010. The conference was designed to provide a framework for building, strengthening and optimizing medicines safety/pharmacovigilance systems, particularly at the country level. More than 100 participants representing ministries of health, drug regulatory authorities, universities, non-governmental organizations and donors from 30 different countries participated.

  • Global pharmacovigilance initiatives and coordination mechanisms
  • Systems-oriented approach to medicines safety: mechanisms for collecting, interpreting, and using information
  • Pharmacovigilance examples from national, disease-focused and methodological models
  • Donor perspectives on pharmacovigilance activities
