Global Medicines Faculty and MSH Offer Pharmacoeconomics Training of Trainers Workshop in South Africa

Lou Garrison and Joseph Babigumira conducted a training of trainers workshop “Applying Pharmacoeconomics to Essential Medicines Selection” April 10-12, 2012 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The workshop was offered in conjunction with Management Sciences for Health (MSH) through the USAID-funded Systems for Improved Access to Pharmaceuticals and Services (SIAPS) Program. The twenty workshop attendees were mostly pharmacy faculty members and health professionals from throughout South Africa. The workshop was divided into modules, including:

    • Introduction to Pharmacoeconomics
    • Measuring Costs—Methods and Issues
    • Measuring Health Outcomes—Methods and Issues
    • Decision Analysis and Projecting Cost-Effectiveness
    • Case Studies in workgroups
